Reflection based on presentations:
For our last assignment, each group was in charge of a different topic to give an informational speech on. With that being said, this opened up a very good opportunity to retain new information, and I feel I did. The topics varied in similar but distinct directions so it was an interesting sight to see what my classmates came up with. From the pool of topics, we had good eating, self-care, and paying it forward. This was a unique set of topics to hear about because they are things my classmates and I can actually use in our day to day life.
For the topic of "good eating", group 1 which is my group, was assigned the task of presenting on the facts of good eating. This was a very engaging opportunity to research a topic near home as we live in a country where dieting and weight is a nationwide issue that is often spoken about but never handled. If it is handled it is handled poorly which is why getting our information firsthand for this presentation was a nice opportunity to become educated on the topic. While doing my own personal research for my bit in the presentation, I found out a lot about what a balanced diet actually looks like, how many calories one should actually be eating, and how to incorporate diet with exercise for optimal benefit to your health. As my teammates presented, I absorbed even more information along with what I had found. As for the actual presentation, I felt as if our group did a good job at conveying the essentials of what we had found to the other members of the class. Our presentation flowed smoothly, only hiccup being we were missing a member but it was not the end of the world. We got our point across and I noticed our classmates were not "bored", rather they were interested and paying attention to what we were saying.
Group 2 was in charge of the topic "paying it forward" which is mostly about how it is something miniscule and nearly cost free to commit random acts of kindness. In our daily life, it can be very hit or miss to see someone committing genuine acts of kindness as everyone is sort of caught up in their own world. With that being the case group 2 did a great job of how you can go about doing acts of kindness for others and essentially to "pay it forward". Their presentation dove into how these actions can benefit others and also how it can benefit you. They often referenced a film with the same name as their topic, "paying it forward" and in the film the same message is delivered and that is to be kind to others no matter what. This can cause the people who received said act of kindness to "pay it forward" which causes a chain reaction from there on out. In our daily life, it can be very hit or miss to see someone committing genuine acts of kindness as everyone is sort of caught up in their own world. With that being the case As for the actual presentation, they did a solid job. They seemed prepared, which is always important and conveyed all their ideas with no problems.
Group 1 was in charge of the topic of self care and their presentation did teach us a lot about the different aspects of self care. During their presentation they emphasized the importance of self care, as it is not something some people prioritize and do not consider to be a real issue. They let my classmates and I know that self care is essential to your wellbeing and happiness and gave us a few different ways to take care of it.. Through their presentation I learned that self care also does not have to cost money, and can actually be cost free. You can go on about your day doing things that make you happy, you can meditate, exercise, etc. These things are all cost free to us and aid greatly in maintaining our mental and physical health. They even gave us some personal examples of how members of their family or even themself take time for self care and how it has personally benefited them. As for their presentation, they did a solid job at conveying the theme and really informed my classmates and I on the importance and possible routines of self care. It is something that is not often spoken on so hearing new and unique ways that other people go about it was refreshing.
Overall, this assignment was a great opportunity for everyone involved. The topics we were assigned were real life day-to-day concerns and struggles and are some that might not often be talked about. We were all in charge of thoroughly researching our topics and I feel as if everyone did just that. From my group's presentation alone, I felt like I pulled a lot of information out of, adding on to that of the others. The topics were a little different but all correlate a bit the moment you analyze them a bit, so it was interesting to see how everyone approached informing the class on them.
Very good reflection. I never received your 1st blog post.
